The Transformation of Márcia

Márcia had seemingly healthy teeth, but she was very self-conscious about her smile due to excessive gum exposure.

Before proceeding with treatment, we conducted a thorough study to determine the best approach for her case. We opted for veneers as the ideal solution.

To enhance aesthetics and restore harmony to her smile while minimizing gum exposure, we performed a crown lengthening procedure (clinical crown augmentation) on the anterior teeth to level the gum margin.

Next, we corrected the tooth color with an in-office intensive teeth whitening treatment.

Finally, to help Márcia smile confidently, we conducted a digital smile study and crafted ultra-conservative, individually customized ceramic veneers.

    Patrícia Feiteira’s Transformation – Veneers

Patrícia had an anterior open bite (her upper teeth did not contact her lower teeth).

After studying her case, it was determined that she needed orthodontic treatment along with orthognathic surgery to correct and balance her bite and the skeletal relationship between the maxilla and mandible. Since Patrícia did not want a lengthy treatment, it was decided to apply composite veneers to camouflage this disharmony. To do so, we created study models to plan her smile.

Next, we did a mock-up to show Patrícia what her new smile would look like and performed an intensive in-office teeth whitening to make her teeth whiter.

To complete the treatment, we placed dental veneers. Check out the final result in the before-and-after photos below:

The Change of Maria Luísa – Teeth in One Day

The problem of Maria Luísa was not only the aesthetics of her smile but also the functionality of her oral cavity, as the misalignment of her teeth made chewing difficult. In order for Maria Luísa to regain her well-being and self-esteem, intervention was necessary.

After a thorough examination, it was decided to extract all the teeth in the upper arch due to advanced deterioration and poor aesthetics. Subsequently, the One Day Teeth (fixed rehabilitation with implants) surgery was carried out.

Before the implant placement surgery, we conducted a consultation where we performed scaling and root planing, followed by oral hygiene instructions.

In the lower arch, an intensive in-office teeth whitening was carried out to correct the color.

The Change of Maria do Céu Teixeira

Maria do Céu was a woman unhappy with her smile, with darkened teeth and several missing teeth at the back.

In a case like this, with very stained teeth, it is possible to preserve and improve them through ceramic veneers, which correct color, shape, and position changes.

We placed implants in the missing teeth to restore balance in her chewing, however, Maria do Céu only regained her confidence and self-esteem after the placement of ceramic veneers.

Rehabilitation with implants after maxillectomy: Clinical case

Rehabilitation with implants after maxillectomy: Clinical case

In 2015, this 57-year-old female patient came to an orofacial rehabilitation consultation, dissatisfied with the aesthetics and functionality of her current prosthesis.

After a clinical examination, it was gathered that she had been diagnosed with a squamous cell carcinoma in the palate, in the second quadrant, and had undergone a surgical excision and subsequent radiotherapy in 2008.

The treatment plan for this patient was outlined with the goal of performing a rehabilitation using implants.

To do so, it was necessary to perform a microsurgical flap from the iliac crest to close the previous surgical site with bone and soft tissues, thus enabling the placement of implants.

Three implants were planned, RN Straumann®, two free gingival grafts for the reconstruction of the missing vestibule, and, finally, a overdenture to rehabilitate the edentulous space.

At an initial stage, we opted for a removable prosthetic rehabilitation over implants, allowing us to observe the behavior of the peri-implant tissues and facilitate hygiene for the patient.

Later, if there are no complications with the tissues mentioned above, we could move forward with a fixed ceramic prosthesis over implants, which should have an excellent design allowing for proper hygiene.

          Conclusion

Post-oncological maxillary reconstruction is still a recent technique, but it allows for rehabilitation with implants.

This process is the culmination of the entire reconstructive phase, providing patients with access to comfortable, aesthetically favorable prostheses capable of restoring phonetics and swallowing lost during the intervention, ultimately improving the quality of life for these already fragile patients.

            Clinical Case

The Change of Dulce Lopes – Teeth in One Day

Dulce is a patient who had very few teeth in the upper arch and used an acrylic removable prosthesis, which was neither aesthetically nor functionally adequate. Additionally, she had a poor skeletal relationship between the maxilla and the mandible, with the mandible being very prominent.

After a clinical evaluation, we found that the existing teeth were lost, and the solution would be Teeth in One Day.

Following the rehabilitation, it is worth noting the remarkable improvement in this patient, in addition to a contagious smile.
