Case 1 – Periodontology

Periodontology is the area of Dentistry dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to the supporting tissues of the teeth, namely the gums, bone, and periodontal ligament. Gum diseases affect about half of the global population, with periodontitis being one of the most severe, affecting around 11% of people.

It is a chronic inflammation of the gums caused by specific bacteria that make up dental plaque. When present in large numbers, these bacteria lead to the destruction of the gum structures, ultimately resulting in tooth loss.

In addition to complications related to oral health, such conditions also have a significant impact on the aesthetic appearance of the smile.
